Conveniently located at Union Square, Laut was one of the first Malaysian restaurants to receive a Michelin Star in NY. We focus on bringing the best recipes, dishes and flavors from South East Asia for you. Our goal is to preserve the flavor profiles of each dish, while maintaining the integrity of each cuisine. The only way to achieve that is to recreate them from scratch with regionally authentic spices and the freshest ingredients.
Laut, in Bahasa Melayu (Malay Language), translates to Sea. These straits or seas of these coastal cities played a crucial role in the region’s history, navigating traders and travelers from all over the world.
At Laut, we’ll navigate your palates through an adventurous journey of flavors through our cuisine. Our menu ranges from local favorites, street foods, different curries, spicy & sour broths, satays, noodles, bread (roti), and rice dishes.

18 Nov, 2024I ordered Roti Prata, Char Kway Teow, Nasi Lemak, and Coconut Pudding. As a Malaysian, I found the food to be very authentic overall. The Roti Prata was slightly lacking, but still delicious. The Coconut Pudding, though not a special dish in Malaysia, but it was surprisingly amazing. I highly recommend this place to anyone wanting to experience true Malaysian flavors!

17 Nov, 2024Singapore and Malaysian in NYC! Business dinner was a huge success in part because of the atmosphere, food, service. Delicious everything. Lots of veg options. Don’t miss the opportunity to dine here. 😋

20 Nov, 2024The food was fine, but definitely overpriced—Nasi Lemak was $29. That said, I’d recommend the stir-fry pineapple dish and the mango sticky rice if you’re dining here.

12 Oct, 2024This is a Malaysian restaurant, and while the food tasted okay, it didn't really feel like what we would have gotten there. The roti was a little dry and crunchy. The curry was delicious, but the roti canai definitely not what we get back home. The char kuey teow was tasty but again different from the original. I tend to be a little more critical with Malaysian food as sometimes I expect it to be close to home.

07 Nov, 2024Love this place! Been going for years and it never disappoints. Flat wide rice noodle stir fry, satay and rendang curry are probably my favorites. Also surprisingly friendly for a south east Asian restaurant if you have vegetarian friends.
