About the Business

Chef Yim Jung Sik began his culinary journey during his army days. His talent was recognized by the commanding officer who made him his personal chef. The experience inspired Yim to learn to cook professionally, eventually leading him to the renowned Culinary Institute of America, where he was introduced to the intricacies of fine Western cooking. This was followed by apprenticeships at leading New York restaurants Aquavit and Bouley. In 2007, he relocated to Spain where he apprenticed at 2 star Michelin-rated Zuberoa followed by a stint at 3 star Michelin-rated Akelarre. He returned to Seoul and in February, 2009 he opened his near-eponymous restaurant Jung Sik Dang instantly wowing gourmands with his innovative take on what he termed “New Korean”. The New York Times states: “It was only a matter of time before Korean cuisine got the nouvelle treatment, and a pioneer in this growing movement is Jung Sik Dang.”

Made a very last minute bar reservation over the phone yesterday for my fiance's birthday dinner. I love how their bar menu is exactly the same as their dining table menu except it's a la carte (which is great for us bc I could never finish a whole set). We got one of everything on the menu and they were all amazing!! My personal favorite was the uni bibimbop and the bon chan, but honestly everything on the menu was so delicious I wish the portions were bigger bc I wanted more after I finished that octopus leg 😩 Overall they do live up to my expectations for a two Michelin star restaurant! Only thing I would complain about is that I noticed the dining tables were very close to each other and not very spacious. The bar area was great tho!

Amazing food presentation. I started with five different dishes. I loved every bite, but other dishes were just so-so for me. The dining room is clean and modern. However, I deducted 1 star because I finished my glass of wine, and no one asked me for another. They simply served the food and left. I had to find someone to order. and my 2nd glass too. So I decided to finish for a drink. But overall was very good for my birthday dinner.

I went there to celebrate my boyfriend’s birthday and the service was amazing. They are very friendly and very nice. However, the food was a bit salty for almost every dishes. Overall it was ok but we loved the desserts there, it was refreshing and not too sweet. I would recommend you guys to try it once for any special occasion or regular normal meal.

A great meal that lives up to the high cost. There’s lots of different flavors here, the banchan was standout, and we left full. The sake flight was great and unique. Loses a star though because there’s less interest to return given the menu doesn’t seem to have changed at all in a very long time. Also kinda awkward that there didn’t appear to be any Koreans working in the entire front of house while we were there.
