Designed by architect César Pelli,[1] with Adamson Associates, the World Financial Center complex was built by Olympia and York from 1983 to 1988[2] on the landfill used to build Battery Park City.[3]
During the September 11 attacks in 2001, debris severely damaged the lobby and lower floors' granite cladding and glass. It has since been fully restored and significant repairs were made to the other buildings in the complex. The Winter Garden Atrium received major structural damage to its glass and steel frame, but ceremonially reopened on September 11, 2002.[4]
After the attacks, the World Financial Center underwent a $250 million renovation and expansion project, in conjunction with the construction of a new east–west passageway linking the complex with the World Trade Center site.[5] The project included a transit pavilion to be built as an extension of the existing Winter Garden Atrium, on the West Street side. Preliminary plans called for the demolition of the Grand Staircase, which was the main focal entry point to Winter Garden and the waterfront, as it connected to the Vesey Street pedestrian bridge adjacent to the original World Trade Center. The Grand Staircase has also been used as an amphitheater; thus, the plans for demolition had outraged residents, who promptly appealed for its preservation in the latest redevelopment plans. The transit pavilion opened in 2013, and is located at 100 West Street

07 Nov, 2024Wow I didn’t know they had a mall in Manhattan! There was so many high name brands in there and the big opening of the palm trees with high ceilings made it feel like paradise! Stumbled upon this place because they had a can-struction display which will be shown to the public for a short time. It’s amazing how they used all different colored cans to make amazing art! You gotta see for yourself to believe it!

16 Jul, 2024Brookfield Place isn't just a shopping center—it's a whole experience. This place has it all: top-notch shops, amazing food options, and some seriously cozy spots to just sit and soak up the ambiance. The shopping is upscale, with a great mix of high-end brands and unique boutiques. After some retail therapy, the food court is a must-visit. There's something for every taste, from quick bites to fancy eats. And the best part? The seating areas by the windows offer some pretty sweet views of the Hudson. It’s also a fantastic place to catch up on some work with your laptop or meet up with friends for coffee. Whether you’re looking to shop, dine, or just enjoy a relaxed day out, Brookfield Place has got you covered.

11 Jul, 2024This is a very nice upscale shopping center with several food courts. I stayed at the Conrad NYC and it was across the street. It’s located next to Hudson River and there is plenty of outdoor seating. It’s a pretty big shopping center and connects to shopping area near World Trade Center.
