"The name Azabu comes from a district in Tokyo, Japan, which began as a hub for merchants and local businesses. Now the city is home to embassies from many countries, giving the area an air of diversity, while preserving the history of local commerce with a modern, nostalgic touch. Plan Do See opened one of its first restaurants in the area, The Tokyo Restaurant, inside an historic building that used to be a bank. Soon after opening, the restaurant was full of a diverse clientele, bringing a lively vibe to the neighborhood. Plan Do See Founder Yutaka, walked by and noticed the restaurant swarming with international guests. It was this moment, in the city of Azabu, that he felt certain of the imminent success of expanding the business abroad."

10 Aug, 2024Top-notch Japanese quality at a reasonable price. The atmosphere and taste were exceptional, especially the six-piece sushi set, which was outstanding. As a nice touch, Shota and his team served us hot green tea at the end. Highly recommend!

08 Dec, 2024We booked a table at Azabu thinking of a high quality genuine Japanese experience. The pictures from previous guests seemed very inviting (we hadn’t noticed they were from years before). Unfortunately the dinner was very poor due to both quality of ingredients and service. The wagyu tataki was served in a mix of ingredients, half steamed half grilled. Worst wagyu tataki I have ever had. The Otoro, supposed to be a fatty and very tasty tuna cut, came with zero fat and little taste. All with no introduction or explanation from our waiter. When sharing our comments we were told other guests like it. We believe (or hope) this restaurant might have been great a few years back in line with the pictures date. However, after having visited Japan many times, we can say this restaurant has little to no Japanese essence left. We maybe got unlucky or it might be different with an omakase experience. We will never know.

19 Sep, 2021One word to describe this establishment-inconsistent. I have visited Azabu 4 times and ordered delivery once, which of course would deem my rating as precise as one can get. It is such a shame, because I sincerely enjoy this restaurant and would even give it a high 4 star on days the Head chef is working. On days he is not available or on vacation it is an absolute disaster service wise and the food is almost a 2 star rating. Everything is Chewy, pale, horribly cut. When he is available everything is pristine. Buttery, fresh, delicious. Take a look at my depressing 150$ delivery order. My Otoro looks like it’s a phantom of yesterday’s Tuna. Better to close your restaurant on days the head chef isn’t available then keep open and lose clients.

05 Aug, 2024My friends introduced me to this spot because their sushi is always the most fresh and from Japan. Truly a gem hidden in Tribeca — our waitress Emily gave great recommendations, too. Make sure you ask for the seasonal stuff!
